New Temperature Controlled High and Low Care Fish Processing Facility and Offices

After first assisting our customer with their feasibility study and initial design work, we were engaged to convert their existing empty industrial unit into a class leading fish processing facility. This full turnkey project, circa 2 million started with detailed design work and obtaining building control approval. Work commenced on site with floor sawing and breaking out of the existing reinforced concrete floor utilising the latest robotic heavy plant and the installation of fully welded stainless steel drainage, and latest model external grease interceptor. Floors were then re-modelled using polymer modified screeds to achieve free flowing falls down to the newly installed drainage gullies and channels, and topped off with Food-CreteTM, the only specialist polyurethane resin materials designed to meet the specific riggers of the food manufacturing industry.

Back in our offices while the initial construction work was taking place, our in-house team of CAD design engineers were carrying out the detailed ventilation, refrigeration, electrical and mechanical design. Back on site the next step was to install the ‘Food’ grade hygienic insulated ceiling and walls, designed to achieve industry leading thermal and energy conserving rates while maintaining best practice BRC hygienic design. These were installed on top of fully welded concrete filled stainless steel wall protection kerbing, which were fabricated in our own fabrication workshop, allowing us to not only to fabricate to exacting site requirements, minimising installation time on site, but also turn around deliveries very quickly. Easy slide thermal doors and insulated rapid rise doors were installed with the aim of minimising our customers future exposure to common industry operative strain injuries.

Our Ventilation, Refrigeration, electrical and mechanical engineers now moved into action on site installing their elements. The ventilation was designed and installed to ensure there was a positive pressure in the High Care areas, meeting strict industry standards. All electrical and mechanical services were run in stainless steel and spaced off the walls to facilitate easy cleaning during future production. Refrigeration systems for the cold stores and temperature controlled production areas were designed and installed to achieve best practice industry temperatures using ceiling hung evaporators coupled up with up-to-the-minute external condensers.
